We took Jake for a trip to the coast this week. He didn’t quite know what to make of this strange stuff called sand, and was a little wary of those things called waves. Still it looks like he had plenty of fun.

Life with Jake: The early days

We adopted Jake, the 6.5 month old Labrador Retriever in April 2010.

His previous owner hadn’t walked him for 3 months, which meant he was extremely hyperactive with lots of pent up energy.

Three months and a lot of patience later he’s completely transformed into a super mellow dog (most of the time!), so nobody believes us when we describe what he used to be like.

Here’s a few clips of his crazy antics from the first few days.

Jake the Lab’s First Swim

Despite his water dog genes, Jake the Lab never seemed keen on the wet stuff. He’d always walk around puddles and jump over streams in the woods.
We recently took him to the lake to give him his first swimming lessons. A few treats lured him into the water and he soon realised how much fun it can be.
Once he’d dived in a few times he was happily splashing his way through the waves on his own accord!

Adventure Time with Chris and Jake

What time is it?! It’s adventure time with Chris the human and Jake the dog. If you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about check out the righteous new cartoon series Adventure Time with Finn and Jake.
Today Jake and I head off exploring the woods for an old RAF aerodrome that was used as a balloon barrage station during WW2. For more photos, check out this set on Flickr.

Jake Plays With His New Dog Friends At The Park

To boost Jake’s social skills we’ve been taking him to the local playing field to play and interact with other dogs over the past few days.

Jake the Dog Feels a Little Spaced Out After his Operation

Today was Jake’s big day, the day of his neutering op. In other words, today was the day he lost his balls!
After the operation he was still feeling a little dopey from the anaesthetic, and couldn’t quite work his legs by the time we got back home.
But don’t worry, you’ll be glad to hear he’s back to his normal bouncy self now!

Doggy Wrestle Mania – Jake the Lab vs Barney the Cocker Spaniel

Our friends Matt and Pete called round with Matt’s dog Barney to give Jake some socialisation with other dogs and to introduce him to his new play mate.
It didn’t take long until play time kicked in. Enjoy the wrestling match between Jake the 7 month old Labrador Retriever and Barney, the 7 year old Cocker Spaniel.

We’re Making Great Progress with Jake’s Training

After just a few days of hard work with Jake’s training, we’re already seeing major improvements in his behaviour. He’s now a polite little pup who doesn’t jump half as much, and his lead pulling has definitely reduced.

He still breaks out into moments of craziness, but with plenty of exercise he’s certainly mellowing out.
